¹¹ Does this mean that God has rejected his Jewish people forever? Of course not! His purpose was to make his salvation available to the Gentiles, and then the Jews would be jealous and want God’s salvation for themselves. ¹² Now if the entire world became prosperous due to God’s offer of salvation, when the Jews stumbled over it and turned it down, think how much greater a blessing the world will share in later on when the Jews, too, come to Christ.want

¹³ As you know, God has appointed me a special messenger to you, Gentiles. I lay great stress on this and remind the Jews about it as often as I can, 14 so that if possible, I can make them want what you Gentiles have and, in that way, save some of them. 15 And how wonderful it will be when they become Christians! When God turned away from them it meant that he turned to the rest of the world to offer his salvation; and now it is even more remarkable when the Jews come to Christ. It will be like dead people coming back to life. 16 And since Abraham and the prophets are God’s people, their children will be too. For if the tree’s roots are holy, the branches will be too.

¹⁷ But some of these branches from Abraham’s tree, some of the Jews, have been broken off. And you Gentiles who were branches from, we might say, a wild olive tree, were grafted in. So now you, too, receive the blessing God has promised Abraham and his children, sharing in God’s rich nourishment of his own special olive tree.

¹⁸ But you must be careful not to brag about being put in to replace broken branches. Remember that you are important only because you are now a part of God’s tree; you are just a branch, not a root.

¹⁹ “Well,” you may be saying, “those branches were broken off to make room for me, so I must be pretty good.”

²⁰ Watch out! Remember that those branches, the Jews, were broken off because they didn’t believe God, and you are there only because you do. Do not be proud; be humble and grateful—and careful. ²¹ For if God did not spare the branches he put there in the first place, he won’t spare you either.

²² Notice how God is both kind and severe. He is very hard on those who disobey but very good to you if you continue to love and trust him. But if you don’t, you too will be cut off. ²³ if the Jews leave their unbelief behind them and come back to God, God will graft them back into the tree again. He has the power to do it.

²⁴ For if God was willing to take you who were so far away from him—being part of a wild olive tree—and graft you into his own good tree—a very unusual thing to do—don’t you see that he will be far more ready to put the Jews back again, who were there in the first place?

²⁵ I want you to know about this truth from God, dear brothers so that you will not feel proud and start bragging. Yes, some of the Jews have indeed set themselves against the Gospel now, but this will last only until all of you Gentiles have come to Christ—those of you who will. ²⁶ And then all Israel will be saved.

Do you remember what the prophets said about this? “There shall come out of Zion a Deliverer, and he shall turn the Jews from all ungodliness. ²⁷ At that time, I will take away their sins, just as I promised.”

²⁸ Now many of the Jews are enemies of the Gospel. They hate it. But this has been a benefit to you, for it has resulted in God’s giving his gifts to you Gentiles. Yet the Jews are still beloved of God because of his promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. ²⁹ For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn; he will never go back on his promises. ³⁰ Once you were rebels against God, but when the Jews refused his gifts God was merciful to you instead. ³¹ And now the Jews are the rebels, but some day they, too, will share in God’s mercy upon you.

God brings Salvation to the Gentiles after the Jews reject Him

Psalm 14:7 Oh, that the Salvation of Israel would come out of Zion!
When the Lord brings back  the captivity of His people,
Let Jacob rejoice, and Israel be glad.

Jesus was born as the King of the Jews.

Matthew 15:24

²⁴ But He answered, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

Luke 23:38

³⁸ There was a written notice above him: this is the King of the Jews.

But since the Jews rejected Jesus as their Messiah, God switched gears and turned to the Gentiles and decided to include them or engraft them into the vine. He urged them to become part of the main plan of Salvation He had reserved for the Jews. Jews and Gentiles are now both partakers of that Salvation that was initially only meant for the Jews.

The Jews rejected Jesus as the Messiah sent to them by God

John 1:11-13

¹¹ He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. ¹² But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: ¹³ who were born, not of blood, nor the will of the flesh, nor the will of man, but of God.

God dispatched the Apostle Paul to go to the Gentiles and preach the Gospel after the Jews resisted Jesus and the Gospel.

Acts 18:6

⁶ But when they opposed Paul and became abusive, he shook out his clothes in protest and said to them, “Your blood be on your heads! I am innocent of it. From now on, I will go to the Gentiles.”

Romans 11:11-36

Gentiles Grafted In

¹¹ So I ask, did they stumble so that they might fall? By no means! Instead, through their trespass, Salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel jealous. ¹² Now, if their trespass means riches for the world, and if their failure means riches for the Gentiles, how much more will their full inclusion mean?

¹³ Now I am speaking to you Gentiles. Since I am an apostle to the Gentiles, I magnify my ministry 14 in order somehow to make my fellow Jews jealous and thus save some of them. 15 If their rejection means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance mean but life from the dead? 16 If the dough offered as first fruits is holy, so is the whole lump, and if the root is holy, so are the branches.

¹⁷ But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, although a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among the others and now share in the nourishing root of the olive tree, 18 do not be arrogant toward the branches. If you are, remember it is not you who support the root, but the root that supports you. 19 Then you will say, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” 20 That is true. They were broken off because of their unbelief, but you stand fast through faith. So do not become proud but fearful. ²¹ For if God did not spare the natural branches, neither will he spare you. ²² Note then the kindness and the severity of God: severity toward those who have fallen, but God’s kindness to you, provided you continue in his kindness. Otherwise, you, too, will be cut off. 23 And even they, if they do not continue in their unbelief, will be grafted in, for God has the power to graft them in again. 24 If you were cut from what is by nature a wild olive tree and grafted, contrary to nature, into a cultivated olive tree, how much more will these, the natural branches, be grafted back into their olive tree?

Ephesians 3: 1-7

The Mystery Revealed

3, For this reason, I, Paul, the prisoner of Christ Jesus for you Gentiles— ² if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, three how that by revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, four by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ), five which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as the Spirit has now revealed it to His holy apostles and prophets: 6 that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the Gospel, 7 of which I became a minister according to the gift of the grace of God given to me by the effectual working of His power.

Acts 9
9 Meanwhile, Saul still breathed murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest ² and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus so that if he found any who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. As he approached Damascus on his journey, a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”
5 “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.
“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. 6 “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”
7 The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. 8 Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. 9 For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything.
10 In Damascus, there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!”
“Yes, Lord,” he answered.
11 The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. 12 In a vision, he has seen Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.”
13 “Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem. 14 And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.”
15 But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. 16 I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.”
17 Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” 18 Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, 19 and after taking some food, he regained his strength.
Saul in Damascus and Jerusalem
Saul spent several days with the disciples in Damascus. 20 At once he began to preach in the synagogues that Jesus is the Son of God. 21 All those who heard him were astonished and asked, “Isn’t he the man who raised havoc in Jerusalem among those who call on this name? And hasn’t he come here to take them as prisoners to the chief priests?” 22 Yet Saul grew more and more powerful and baffled the Jews living in Damascus by proving that Jesus is the Messiah.
23 After many days had gone by, there was a conspiracy among the Jews to kill him, 24 but Saul learned of their plan. Day and night, they kept close watch on the city gates to kill him. 25 But his followers took him by night and lowered him in a basket through an opening in the wall.
26 When he came to Jerusalem, he tried to join the disciples, but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he really was a disciple. 27 But Barnabas took him and brought him to the apostles. He told them how Saul, on his journey, had seen the Lord and that the Lord had spoken to him, and how in Damascus, he had preached fearlessly in the name of Jesus. ²⁸ So Saul stayed with them and moved about freely in Jerusalem, speaking boldly in the name of the Lord. ²⁹ He talked and debated with the Hellenistic Jews,but they tried to kill him. 30 When the believers learned of this, they took him to Caesarea and sent him off to Tarsus.
³¹ Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace and was strengthened. Living in the fear of the Lord and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it increased in numbers.
